Ego Logo

Ego Logo

Ever seen a person wearing a t-shirt with something on it that just wanted you to ask him/her: "Really?"
Well, I wrote a poem on just that. Take a look.

Now

In my latest poem, Now, I work through the realization point in the healing process from a painful past. The imagery is quick and rhythmically catchy, but it wasn't until I looked at the first 2/3rd's of the poem (which was, by the way, written on an index card at my kitchen sink at about 12:30 a.m.) that I realized the pattern was so much deeper then just the rhyming. And it's that realization which finishes out the poem, and thus, the title.

Health Benefits of Watermelon

This is a poem I whipped up just to play around with the SEO trends.

Here's a taste:

No, the only summer food
for me
is slice after slice
of healthy,
juicy,
sticky,
yummy watermelon.

Nathaniel Hawthorne & The Slavery Issue

Nathaniel Hawthorne was better known for his novels (The Scarlet Letter) & short stories relating to Puritan lifestyles and religious beliefs. However, the issue of slavery was a hot political topic during his lifetime as well.

In this article, I discuss how he takes issue with both sides of the debate in his short story The Maypole of Merry Mount.

Poetry: Who You Are to Me

For Father's Day, I decided to do something a bit more personal than previous years. I wrote a poem for my Dad.

I entitled it Who You Are to Me

Father,
You are to me...
~ my spiritual adviser
~ a lap to crawl up in
~ my encouragement
~ a handy-man.

That's just a taste. Read the rest of my tribute to my dad here.

A Mullica Dialogue

A Mullica Dialogue

Here's a funny, play on words conversation.

Squirrel: Hey, man. Did you drive with the windows down again?
Mudflap: Huh? Why you say that?
Squirrel: Cause your flaps are muddy! (laughs)
Mudflap: Oh, nah. Wife had me sleeping with the pigs last night.

A Mullica Dialogue II

A Mullica Dialogue II

If you're wanting a good laugh, read this conversation between two "not-so-bright" fellows.

Here's just a sample:

Tom: What’s gnawing at you, Squirrel?
Squirrel: It’s this girl I’ve been seeing.
Tom: You got a girl? Since when?
Squirrel: No, I ain’t got no girl. I’ve just seen her.

My Debut Novel now available!!!

I'm finally a published author!

After 15 + years of fearing, holding back, waiting for the right time, etc. I took the leap and wrote my first novel.

It's an excitement I can also share with my teenage daughter. At 13, she is a published illustrator - drawing not only the cover art, but all of the inside illustrations as well! I am so proud of her.

My novel is currently available in paperback and hardback. The e-book format will be ready for purchase in another 4 weeks.

Here's the links where it can be purchased:

Poetry: If Teachers Were Paid Pro Athletes' Salaries

How would America be different if we held teachers on a higher level than professional athletes?

Poetry: Voice

Written on Good Friday in 2005, this poem reflects the depression of the soul that even strong Christians can fall victim to when the world’s pressures become overwhelming and we loose sight of our Savior’s hand.
I am a voice
     of nothing
I have no face of beauty
     no hands

Poetry: Reaction

Raw emotions are sometimes best faced head-on. And while it’s not the best, a heart broken by treachery of someone who once vowed to love you "until death do you part" can’t help but jump to thoughts such as these.
Time slams still
as Anger
Bleeding, Beats
through Breasts
     of Broken Admiration ~

Poetry: Smiling Thoughts for Me

What are those things that bring a smile to your face. This poem explores just a few in my own life.
My Cowboy’s goofy grin,
My teenage girl snuggling up close

   I can hardly breathe,...

Poetry: Prostitute

An inside look into the mind of a lady who feels she has no choice in her profession. As humans, we look on the outside, but if we only took the time to learn a person’s heart opportunities to reach out to those lost and hurting would be endless. Think before judging – it’s not our job.

Poetry: Speaking Louder than Words
